Skills

Skills are reusable AI instructions and reference content managed separately from general file operations. They are configured per account and associated with one or more agents.

Intended use

  • Read skill content for prompts: Configure a read operation to load a Markdown or text skill from local storage, GCS, S3, a URL, or GitHub into a destination variable. Reference that variable in prompts, for example {{var.customer_support_skill}}.
  • Generate and write skill content: Use a prompt to generate skill content into a source variable, then configure a write operation to save it to the desired provider and path.
  • Read and write: Use both when one operation is intended to support both directions.

The Skills page mirrors the Files configuration workflow. Each skill defines its direction, provider, optional bucket and connector, path template, format, source and destination variables, and agent associations. Dynamic paths may reference session values such as skills/{{var.skill_name}}.md.

Flow usage

Use the skill name as the value of a skill key in an intent or action flow:

{
  "0": { "skill": "load_customer_support_skill" },
  "1": { "prompt": "answer_using_customer_support_skill" }
}

For read actions, set the destination variable to the variable the prompt uses. For write actions, have an earlier prompt or flow step populate the configured source variable.

Storage and access

Skills use the same storage providers and connector settings as Files. Configure the appropriate storage permissions and connector credentials before enabling an operation. Local paths refer to the filesystem available to the process running the PinionAI client, not the end user's machine.
